1. General information 
Where can I find course information about the RSM electives?
You can find an overview of the RSM electives per block and section on the Knowledge Base. Please check the B3 Canvas page for the introductory videos, and the Course Catalogue for a course description and additional information.
I cannot find the elective for the current academic year in the course catalogue.
If the course is not yet visible for the current academic year, check the course information from the previous academic year. This may provide useful information about the course but please note that the information is subject to change.
I have completed or will complete courses or projects outside RSM. Do I still need to take RSM electives?
No. RSM electives are not mandatory. You can choose from different options, including approved external components. You are free to combine these options to obtain the required number of EC.
Can I take my RSM elective (exam) online?
Two RSM electives in block 3.2 are taught and assessed entirely online. One RSM elective in block 3.3 is taught online but has an on-campus exam. The majority of RSM electives are taught and assessed on campus.
Are there any Dutch RSM electives?
No. All RSM electives are taught in English.

2. Eligibility and requirements
Are there any requirements to register RSM elective preferences in Osiris?
Yes. You need to be enrolled for your third bachelor year at RSM and you need to have competed B1 (= 60 EC) in order to register your preferences and participate in the elective.
I have completed B1 by compensating for one course. Am I still eligible to take RSM electives?
Yes. If you have successfully completed B1, including through compensation of one course, you are eligible to take RSM electives in B3.
I already took an RSM elective last year. Can I take another RSM elective in the same block this year?
Yes. The maximum number of RSM electives you can take in a particular block applies within the same academic year only.
I failed an elective last year. Will I be automatically registered for the same elective this academic year?
No. You will not be automatically registered for your previous elective. You will need to submit your elective preferences in Osiris again.

3. Registration and preferences

How do I register my preferences for the RSM electives?

To facilitate the process, we have created lottery-courses. You can register between 1-30 September via Osiris. Detailed instructions can be found on the B3 Canvas page.

If I do not register for an RSM elective, will I be automatically assigned to one?
No. You will not be randomly assigned to an RSM elective. You are responsible for submitting your preferences for the RSM elective(s) you wish to follow.
Can I register for more than 3 RSM electives?
No. There are restrictions on the number of RSM electives you can take per academic year, with additional restrictions per block/section.
I only need one or two RSM electives to complete my B3 elective space. Can I still register for an additional RSM elective as a backup?

Yes. You may register for an additional RSM elective as a backup. After completing the electives, you can choose which course(s) you want to use within your B3 elective space. The remaining course will be moved to a separate section and will not be shown on your official grade transcript.


Can I register for more electives than I need and deregister after the lottery?
Yes. You may register for an additional elective as a backup and deregister from the elective(s) after the lottery. We kindly ask you to deregister asap, so that your valuable spot can be offered to another student.

4. Lottery and allocation

How does the RSM elective lottery work?

The RSM lottery uses an allocation tool that only takes your preferences into consideration. 

Does my GPA or registration date affect my chances in the lottery?

No. Neither your GPA nor the date on which you register affects your chances of being allocated to an elective. Placement depends on your preferences, the number of students applying, and the number of available places.  

Does putting an elective as my first preference guarantee that I will get it?

No. Your preferences are taken into account during the lottery, but placement depends on the number of students applying and the number of available places.

I am going on exchange or doing an internship. Do I automatically get an online elective?

We aim to give students who are going on exchange or doing an internship priority when allocating online electives, provided that an online elective is their first preference. However, this priority cannot be guaranteed, as allocation depends on the number of applications and available places.


5. Practical information 
When can I see the schedule for the RSM electives?
You can already manually look up the teaching and written test dates for all courses in MyTimetable. After we officially register you for the RSM elective(s) in Osiris, they will be added to your personal timetable. The Osiris course registration takes place 2-3 weeks before the start of the course.
When will I be registered for the RSM electives in Osiris?
The lottery results will be published in Osiris by the end of October. Your actual course registration will take place 2-3 weeks before the start of the course. 
Can I change my elective after the lottery?

Yes, if places are still available. After the lottery, available places will be announced on the B3 Canvas page, under People > Groups. You can register for an available elective until approximately 2-3 weeks before the start of the course. The exact deadlines for each block will be communicated in the announcements on the B3 Canvas page.
